We are pleased to invite you to the opening meeting of the year by "Academy for Equality" organization, which is held on the occasion of the opening of the academic year and in the shadow of the events of the last year and whose purpose is to support students at the Academy who are standing, in the shadow of the increasing violence, in the face of an increasing reduction of freedom of expression.
The past year was particularly challenging, in light of the relentless persecution of students who expressed positions opposing the war or those challenging the consensus in Israeli society. Students who deviated from the dominant range of opinions encountered a hostile attitude, disciplinary committees, punishments, and even temporary suspensions from the educational institutions. We at "Academy for Equality" believe that every student has the right to express an opinion and be present on campus without fear of persecution, especially in the current period, when expressing criticism is a civic duty and the range of legitimate opinions has narrowed significantly, while academic freedom is threatened through voices from within the academy and through external legislation .
At the upcoming meeting, which will be held on Zoom on Tuesday 11/12/2024 at 20:00 Jerusalem time, we will introduce you to the organization's hotline, which is designed to provide a quick response in cases of persecution, silencing or violation of your rights. In addition, you will meet Adi Mansour, a lawyer from the Adalah Center who represented students from all academic institutions in Israel. Also, the meeting will be attended by our representatives from Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew University, Tel-Hai Academic College, Yezreel Valley Academic College, Ben Gurion University and Haifa University, whom you can ask questions towards the beginning of the year. Finally, we will offer you tools and advice on how to deal with complex situations that may arise in the coming year.
Join the meeting and be part of a community that works for equality, academic freedom and mutual support.
